On Tuesday, 30 January, I joined some of the recycling team from Liverpool City Council at the Refreshers Fair, where they where informing students of the services available to them.
It sounds like they're doing a great job along side the the team from the Green Guild to encourage the student population in Liverpool to not only recycle more but to be more responsible with old furniture when moving out at the end of term. In areas where there is a high population of students, alleyways become filled with furniture when term time comes to an end and students move out.
The Green Guild along with the recycling team have rolled out a scheme where students bring unwanted furniture to the Guild. The furniture is then stored there until the beginning of the next semester and given away to new and returning students to furnish their new homes for free.
This innovative scheme is proving to be a real success and is not only helping to keep the alleyways of Liverpool tidy but is preventing tonnes of useful items going to landfills.
