Yesterday was a very busy day for GTDT and our partners, Alt Housing, Prima Housing, LCC Recycling Team, Bulky Bob's and the LCC Street Scene Team, as we headed out with residents from Ritson and Asbridge Street to kick start spring with a good clean out.
The team from Bulky Bob's came down to collect any unwanted furniture. They even helped to transport rubbish to the skips that had been provided by Alt Housing and Prima Housing. They helped people to clear out furniture that would of other wise gone to the skip. Some of it even found a new home there and then. A new resident who's just moved to the area with her baby, took home with her a dining table and chairs, two sofa's, a corner cabinet, a coffee table and a wardrobe! Just goes to show that one person's rubbish truly is another one's treasure!
Meanwhile our volunteers where working hard to clean up the streets. Some where extra thorough making sure they didn't leave anything behind. One of our residents even went out to help the bin collectors clear the alleys!
Then at the end of the day we all sat down together to dry off and to enjoy a hot drink and a piece of cake! This was a great opportunity for residents, council workers and housing officers to get to know one another and learn from each other.
In the end in spite of the wet weather we all ended the day with smiles and a great sense of achievement! There was even talk of when to do the next event...So watch this space.
