Builder Book Project

GTDT was kindly gifted some more Builder Book Boxes by MPAC's Holiday Activity Fund to engage with young people in various community settings in the L8 area.

We plan to work closely with young people in a number of schools who will be able to produce some great pieces of work to coincide with National Storytelling Week and International Book Giving Day. The builder book boxes are filled with books, stationery, paper crafts, writing tools and other activities.

The concept of these boxes is to allow young people to explore their imagination creating a deeper connection to the world around them. "The aim is to bring reading to life" explains Jude, "if we can think it then we can build it."

Last month Julie dropped off 15 boxes at St. Cleopas C of E Primary School kindly donated by the designers Jude and Natalie and this month Shinear and Julie dropped off 18 boxes at Holy Family Catholic Primary School donated by MPAC's Holiday Activity Fund.

Jen, who is the Child, Family and Community Mentor at Holy Family said:

"Thank you so much to Granby Toxteth Development Trust for the 'Builder Book' project donations for our children. We have some very talented and creative children here at Holy Family School and I know that they are going to create some amazing work! Our children are very imaginative with many enjoying drawing, developing characters and creating their own stories. I think we have some future authors and comic book creators in our midst, and these boxes will help to inspire and instil confidence."

We look forward to visiting the schools again to see what the children have produced with their boxes and to discuss plans to work together on other projects.
